Granola is definitely one of my top choices for breakfast. The beauty of preparing your own granola is that once you understand the fundamental recipe, perhaps by using a guide, you can customize your granola to suit your preferences.
Ingredients for a basic recipe:
300g rolled oats
60g almond butter / peanut butter or any other nut butter of preference
8 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
90g mixed nuts (crushed into small pieces)
2 tablespoons flaxseeds
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
Extra ingredients you might want to serve with your granola:
Yogurt
Milk
Berries (frozen or fresh)
Chocolate chips
Dried fruits such as raisins, sultanas, or cranberries
Cooking tools you will need:
Saucepan
Mixing spoon
Large mixing bowl
Baking tray
Sheet of baking paper
Step-by-step guide:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (fan oven)
Add the oats, flaxseeds, nuts, salt, and cinnamon into a large bowl and mix
In a saucepan, melt the nut butter and maple syrup on low heat until it is all combined
Pour the nut butter mixture from the saucepan into the large bowl with the oat mixture
Mix the ingredients together. If you want to create chunks of granola, try using your hands to mix
Pour the granola mixture onto a baking tray lined with baking paper
Bake for around 10-15 minutes, until the granola is golden in color
Let the granola cool at room temperature as it will continue to crisp as it cools
Serve as desired and enjoy!
