Granola has got to be one of my favourite things to eat for breakfast. What's so great about making your own granola is that once you master the basic formula, maybe by following a recipe, you can start mixing up a granola to make it just the way you like it.
Ingredients for a basic recipe:
300g rolled oats
60g almond butter / peanut butter or any other nut butter preferences
8 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
90g mixed nuts (crushed into small pieces)
2 tablespoon flaxseeds
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
Extra ingredients you might want to serve with your granola:
Yoghurt
Milk
Berries (frozen or fresh)
Chocolate chips
Dried fruits such as raisins, sultanas or cranberries
Cooking tools you will need:
- Saucepan
- Mixing spoon
- Large mixing bowl
- Baking tray
- Sheet of baking paper
Step-by-step guide:
Pre-heat your oven to 180C (fan oven)
Add the oats, flaxseeds, nuts, salt and cinnamon into a large bowl and mix
In a saucepan, melt the nut butter and maple syrup on a low heat until it is all combined
Pour the nut-butter mixture from the saucepan into the large bowl with the oat mixture
Mix the ingredients together. If you want to create chunks of granola, try using your hands to mix
Pour the granola mixture on a baking tray that is lined with baking paper
Bake this for around 10-15 minutes, until the granola is golden in colour
Let the granola to cool at room temperature as the granola will carry on crisping as it cools
Serve how you like it and enjoy!
